Fresh Avocados

Avocados are used in all types of meals, especially in vegetarian dishes. Due to their high fat content they are often used as a substitute for meat
When unripe, the avocado will have a light green skin and feel hard when squeezed. After a few days left out in the open air, the avocado will ripen, resulting in the skin appearing a darker green and feel feel softer when pressure is applied.
The smooth and creamy flesh is yellow, however when exposed to the air during preparation it will quickly turn brown. Whilst this may look unappetising, it is still entirely edible.
Avocados contain fibre and low amounts of sugar, therefore helping you feel full for longer. Some of the nutrients avocados contain have been associated with reducing the risk of chronic diseases when included in a balanced and healthy diet. Below are some of the diseases avocados are known to reduce the risk of:

- Type 2 Diabetes
- Macular Degeneration
- Cataracts
They also contain resources for healthy bacteria in the body, furthermore assisting in the prevention of chronic diseases.
This produce provides up to 20 different nutrients, below are just some of those:
- Potassium – An essential mineral that helps maintain normal levels of fluid inside our cells. It also assists and supports normal blood pressure while helping the muscles operate for normal body function.
- Folate – A natural form of Vitamin B9, folate has a role in breaking down amino acids which can produce harmful effects to the body.
- Vitamin B6 – A key vitamin, B6 helps with many functions in body, in particular breaking down fats, carbohydrates and supporting brain function along with immune system.
- Vitamin C – A powerful antioxidant that plays a role in controlling infections and healing. It is also needed for a protein in the connective tissue throughout the body.
- Vitamin E – Like Vitamin C, Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant. This vitamin prevents blood clotting in the heart and helps the function of the immune system.
- Vitamin K – Helps make proteins used to build bones and healthy bone tissue along with forming clots.
